Kelly Byrnes Scholarship Recipient Aimee Leu is a nursing student at our Sylvania campus in Ohio. As a mother of seven and grandmother of two, her life has experienced many detours on the way to achieving her goals. She naturally had to put her children first for many years.
She made the decision to go back to school and become a Registered Nurse once several of her children were of age. Aimee chose Ross for two reasons, the online classes and ability to graduate in two years.
“I have always wanted to help others,” Aimee shared, “while working in the medical field I have seen the barriers that people have to overcome to get care and I would like to be a part of breaking through those barriers!”
Aimee has overcome challenges, like the hurdles of technology and having to drop to part-time hours to allow herself time to study and do my homework. The weight of household chores has felt overwhelming at times to her husband, who is disabled, and children. But together, Aimee and her family are conquering challenges as Aimee pursues her dream.
When asked about her career goals Aimee shared, “I love working in the hospital setting possibly, especially in trauma care and the emergency room. I’d even like to pursue becoming a care manager to ensure that people are made aware of services that are available.”
Aimee’s advice for future Ross students is to never give up and ask for help.
“Never be ashamed,” Aimee says, “always move forward.”
